My style is based on a long tradition of drawing, with a deep attention to detail & a strong sense of design.
My work is both playful & informative, with influences from vintage illustration, folk painting & retro children's books.
I work happily at a high standard of skill in a broad range of mediums: digital, tempera, acrylic, gesso, pencil, ink & water colour.
A little about me
For over 35 years I have worked as a freelance illustrator, author & designer specialising in Children’s books.
My work has been published both in Australia, overseas & translated into several languages.
I have been awarded residencies at: Varuna Writers Centre, Bundanon, Hill End, & the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland where I had time to pursue projects & create new material.
I have taught advanced illustration at Sydney Graphics College & have been a guest lecturer at TAFE's & Universities.
I have spoken in my capacity as both author & illustrator at the International Teachers Federation of English Conference & the Sydney Writers Festival.
I also work as a freelance appraiser of Children's book manuscripts for the Manuscript Appraisal Agency
& mentor emerging Children's book illustrators & authors.
I live in the delightfully misty Blue Mountains of Australia & work from home.
